Fire pit

Reviving a Kansas Stone Legacy

In a group of trees about 300 feet East of the old stone building is a fire pit. It is made out of stones cemented together. On top of the end of the fire pit was a wood or coal stove bottom used for cooking. It was in several pieces and a leg was missing. Bill Bunce welded it back together and made a leg for it using his forge. This grove of trees was used for community meetings over 100 years ago. Swills from the covered wagon trail to Lecompton from the Oregon/California trail are just East of the grove of trees.
